STANDING STILL FALLING
STANDING STILL FALLING is a new opera in dialogue with Shakespeare´s sonnets. Medical reality and the beauty and brutality of poetry. This opera tells the story of three individuals. Two women and a man. All diagnosed with breast cancer.
STANDING STILL FALLING use Shakespeare´s sonnets as a poetic tool to tell the story of harsh reality in life with cancer. It deals with the common understanding of breast cancer as being an illness exclusively for women. This by including a male case in this fact of life story. STANDING STILL FALLING takes hold on the definition of male and female. The masculine and the feminine.
“When in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes
I all alone beweep my outcast state
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries
And look upon myself and curse my fate”
